Why Do I Keep Checking Their Social Media at Night?
Why it makes you anxious, and why you can’t stop
You’ve had your bath, and all that’s left is sleep. You get into bed, open your phone “just for a minute,” and somehow you’re on their profile again.
When did they last post? Is there a photo with someone else? Did a name you don’t recognize show up in the likes?
Looking never gives you an answer, yet you check anyway. You scroll back through their posts, and before you know it, an hour has gone by.
Night is strange that way. Things you’d barely notice during the day suddenly loom large. A single photo of them out with friends, and your mind starts building a story: “Maybe someone in that group is the one they like.”
This month’s tarot card is the Moon, a card of anxiety and ambiguity. Under moonlight, outlines blur. When you try to read their feelings from a few photos and short posts, you’re standing right inside this card.
But social media shows only a small slice of someone’s life. It can’t tell you what they actually feel. Much of the anxiety you feel at night is something your imagination built, so there’s no need to blame yourself for looking. It only means you care.
Anxiety that swells at night often feels a little smaller by morning. Next time, put the phone down and make yourself something warm to drink. Start with something that small, and give your feelings somewhere else to rest.
